Favourite Records of the Year. Selected by: Amen Dunes

Compared to his previous work, the album has very structurized pieces, but they lose nothing of their elusive magicMesser vocalist Hendrik Otremba told us, and hits the nail on the head. Not only has Damon McMahon – together with his bandmates Jordi Wheeler and Parker Kindred, as well as many guests like Efrim Menuck, Colin Stetson and Elias Bender Rønnenfelt – succeeded in making ‚Love‚ their best Album so far, but a beautifully surreal, psychedelic masterpiece with timeless qualities.

1. Hank Wood & the Hammerheads‚[amazon_link id=“B00P3B5IF8″ target=“_blank“ ]Stay Home [Vinyl LP][/amazon_link]‘
I like bands that I believe, first and foremost, and that are doing something emotional and kind of creative with whatever format theyre in, and these guys are definitely in that realm. One of my favorites from the punk/hardcore world. Kind of have some kind of SST/roots vibe to them as well, which I like, they’re smart about what they do which is super important to me.

2. Panoram – ‚[amazon_link id=“B00KTJRQ9A“ target=“_blank“ ]Everyone is a Door[/amazon_link]
Super positive and musical and weird, a twist on a 90’s acid soul vibe, but updated. So good! I grew up going to clubs, etc., so I like it when even the most ambient electronic music has a club vibe to it, even if subtle, and this definitely does.

3. Puce Mary – ‚[amazon_link id=“B00O4OVVPG“ target=“_blank“ ]Persona[/amazon_link]‘
She’s great. Also falls into the zone of believable, emotional, and creative, which are my prerequisites to liking something. Sounds are super diverse too, and she seems to change things up a lot from release to release, which I love in music and love to do myself.

4. Pharmakon – ‚[amazon_link id=“B00M8HWHB8″ target=“_blank“ ]Bestial Burden[/amazon_link]‘ / Iceage – [amazon_link id=“B00MP0T01I“ target=“_blank“ ]Plowing Into the Fields of Love[/amazon_link]‘
Both of these records rule. Same deal. Believable and fresh and creative and emotional. I’m a little biased with these two, but objectively love them as well.

5. Bob Dylan – ‚[amazon_link id=“B000024UY9″ target=“_blank“ ]Time Out of Mind[/amazon_link]

This didnt technically come out this year, but it did for me.
My favorite dude of all time, who kind of extends far beyond a musical appreciation into some kind of lifelong mentoring, is Bob Dylan. I am obsessed, and have been since I smoked my first cigarette and kissed my first girl, with 1965-68 Dylan and always ignored or disregarded the new stuff. I heard Time Out Of Mind a month or two ago and it has dominated 30% of my daily brain waves ever since. Fucking unparallelled. Total invisible songwriting, which is the best kind. The kind that sounds like nothing until you give it time and it consumes you completely. Played it for a few friends and they were like eh. Its too good to grab you immediately. „Trying to Get to Heaven“ is so good and heavy and beautiful, its almost genre-less. Its as much industrial music as folk music to me. Like a Bresson movie or Brother’s K or something.
