First and foremost, The Tidal Sleep made their homework in contemporary US-hardcore; though ‚Vorstellungskraft‚ foreshadowed some of the things ‚Keep You‚ succeeded in months later, but without the same radical break with their own past. On their second album, the Mannheim/Karlsruhe/Leipzig/
At first I thought – Albums of the year 2014, that can’t be done. But the more I thought about it, the more came to mind that this year had some remarkable records. But see for yourself:
The gents deliver – and I expected none less – a true fireworks display. Everything works. Hot Rotation 2014.
It’s always critical whenever bands „invent themselves anew“. But this worked very well. The album grows with each listen. Everything is much more intense than the previous ones. Incredibly intense. The most pleasant surprise in 2014.
Ryan Adams – ‚[amazon_link id=“B00LGATVO4″ target=“_blank“ ]Ryan Adams[/amazon_link]‘
An artist you kind of lost out of sight for the last years, and who delivers such a good album is always a pleasant affair.Rediscovery 2014.
Great guys, great record, great 2014.
Whoever like instrumental music can’t get past this. I’m thrilled seing them live – someday. Just beautiful 2014.
Sadly 2014 was a year I listened to very few sublime/surprising records. But here are three of my favourites:
Good Songs (!), not just riffs. Technically perfect of course. And the whole Satan-schtik is very entertaining.
2. Run the Jewels – ‚[amazon_link id=“B00NIR8E4Q“ target=“_blank“ ]Run the Jewels 2[/amazon_link]‘
El-P (in my opinion one of the best Hip Hop producers and rappers) and Killer Mike, who always says the right things regarding important topics – big mouth, big beats! Lovin‘ it!
3. Beach Slang – ‚[amazon_link id=“B00NWHSP7S“ target=“_blank“ ]Cheap Thrills on a Dead End Street[/amazon_link]‘
A great combination of 90s emo and the Replacements. Count me in, that’s my thing!
The other band by the bass player of Ghostlimb. Sounds a lot like Bob Mould to me, so Hüsker Dü meets Sugar.
We know each other and are close friends. The lyrics mean a lot to me, because I know Penny, and the music is just great!
3. Everybody Row – ‚[amazon_link id=“B00KTU1TVK“ target=“_blank“ ]The Sea Inside[/amazon_link]‘
The new band by Jack and Stevens (Comrade). Bikini Kill meets Toim Waits and soul.
4. Future Island – ‚[amazon_link id=“B00HY8PXPI“ target=“_blank“ ]Singles[/amazon_link]‘
A great band, especially live. You got to see them.
5. The Common Linnets – ‚[amazon_link id=“B00JGE6GUE“ target=“_blank“ ]The Common Linnets[/amazon_link]‘
Pretty great record. Runs on tour a lot this year.
Many thanks to The Tidal Sleep for participating @ Heavy Pop Advent calender!
