Entweder am Konsens vorbei oder nach zumindest halbwegs objektiven Gesichtspunkten doch von anderen Platten überholt: Wieder haben es zahlreiche Alben nicht in die regulären Top 50 der Jahrescharts geschafft, aber grundsätzlich doch ordentlich Eindruck hinterlassen. Zumindest 15 Vertreter aus dieser undankbar abgespeisten Riege verdienen sich nichtsdestotrotz eine Erwähnung - unsere Honorable Mentions 2019.

On Hunted, Khemmis can keep all the promises their formidable debut Absolution gave 15 months ago, and let fans of Pallbearer and Crypt Sermon alike lick their tongues: nobody in 2016 managed to bridge the distance of epic traditional doom and grand melodies better than the band from Denver, CO. Thus it comes as no surprise, that the four-piece managed to storm the upper ranks oft he end oft he year charts by Decibel magazine. Hard to tell, to which heights the rapidly evolving Khemmis might rise in the years to come. But it sure will be a pleasure to witness.
Kevin Devine is currently touring across Europe - without the Goddamn Band, but with songs from his most recent two studio records 'Bubblegum' and 'Bulldozer'. Right before the concert at the B72 in Vienna he speaks about his his experiences with crowdfunding, future plans and the music industry among other things.
No offense to all the other playgrounds Justin Pearson takes part in – but Retox is most likely the straight up best band in a pool of never dissapointing projects the 38 year old has been a member of since 'New Erections' were, well, erected. The extra portion of kicking rock moments not only suits the grindcore-dervish remarkably well, combined with the stunning guitar-work by Michael Crain it also takes care of making songs like 'Soviet Reunion' or 'Greasy Palm' surefire genre-hits on 'YPLL'. On day 20 of the HeavyPop Advent calendar, Pearson tells us about his favourite records of this past year 2013.
Joe Volk is a musician from Bristol.
