Alkaline Trio – The Sacrifice / At Sickness
Die Doppel-A-Seite aus The Sacrifice und At Sickness ist eine (sehr) gute Erinnerung daran, dass das Alkaline Trio Anfang des Jahres mit Blood, Hair, and Eyeballs ein tolles Album-Comeback gegeben hat.
„We are very excited to be releasing these two songs as a seven inch. Putting out an EP on 7” vinyl is something we haven’t had the opportunity to do for a long time, so having two new songs to offer up on such a classic format is fun for us as vinyl enthusiasts. Both ‘At Sickness’ and ‘The Sacrifice’ were initially written and recorded for our Blood, Hair, and Eyeballs album and leaving them off the record wasn’t an easy decision. It was done merely in the interest of the full-length’s running time, which we wanted to keep under 40 minutes. We’re psyched that these two numbers are being released and will be available on their own special format, no less.”
Die beiden Outtakes des zehnten Langspielers sind dann auch tatsächlich kaum schwächer als die regulären Albentracks. Das gilt schon für das knackig und zugig angelegte The Sacrifice, das einen fast poppigen Refrain sowie eine potentielle Mitmach-Bridge auffährt und damit einen rundheraus überzeugenden Standard nahe eines Semi-Hits liefert. Mehr noch aber für den stärkeren Adriano-Song At Sickness, der mit hymnischen Zug vage an ganz frühe Funeral For a Friend-Eps erinnert und darüber hinaus ein heimliches Highlight der jüngeren Trio-Historie darstellt – auch auf inhaltlicher Ebene: „Face down, wide awake/ Sound dies, meanings change/ Mind breaks, tongue turns/ Words that follow have no place/ They have no place, but cannot wait/ They cannot wait once they start/ You’re just so good at breaking my heart„.
Die auf 1500 Stück limitierte Single muss also in das Plattenregal des Fan-Haushalts.
