Albums of the Year List by: California X
On their self titled debut album California X served a sweaty party with immense groove, brilliant guitar work and many catchy hits somewhere between Torche and Dinosaur Jr.: so beside any name-dropping and fueled with a rocking punkrock spirit similar to Japandroids a headbanging highlight of the year and a huge promise to the future. And also a good reason to ask bassplayer Dan for the Heavypop advent calender what five records the band from Amherst enjoyed the most in 2013. In no particular order that would be…
Potty Mouth – ‚[amazon_link id=“B00EAZYQ4C“ target=“_blank“ ]Hell Bent[/amazon_link]‘
We love this band. They’re also from Western Massachusetts and are making some really great Guitar Music. Ally got us our first show.
Speedy Ortiz – ‚[amazon_link id=“B00CQRNM9G“ target=“_blank“ ]Major Arcana[/amazon_link]‘
Another band from Western Massachusetts making great stuff. We once played a show together in New York and it was Very Very Hot.
Ovlov – ‚[amazon_link id=“B00GKZQ7EM“ target=“_blank“ ]Am[/amazon_link]‘
These guys are from Connecticut and some of them are brothers. We listen to this record constantly. One time, we accidentally sold their record thinking it was our own. It was very dark.
Windhand – ‚[amazon_link id=“B00DMWBSV8″ target=“_blank“ ]Soma[/amazon_link]‘
Amazing Slow-Metal from Virginia. They played the best show I saw in 2013. This record has been playing at my house non-stop since it was released.
Borrowed Time – ‚[amazon_link id=“B00EYQ6G4A“ target=“_blank“ ]Borrowed Time[/amazon_link]‘
Great traditional Heavy Metal from Michigan. Really liked their Fog in the Valley 7″ so I was excited to hear this full-length.
