Indigo Sparke – There is a Light on the Horizon Line
Seit dem schnellen Album-Doppel aus Echo und Hysteria ist es nach 2022 ruhiger um die Australierin Indigo Sparke geworden. Nun gibt es mit There is a Light on the Horizon Line zumindest schonmal wieder eine neue Single.
Im Gegensatz zum 2023 letztlich für sich selbst stehenden In the Garden haben wir es nun mit dem Herold eines dritten Langspielers zu tun. Passenderweise geht es in There is a Light on the Horizon Line im weiteren Sinne auch universell darum, nicht mehr alleine zu sein und seinen Platz in der Welt gefunden zu haben, wie die Musikerin erzählt:
This song became the compass point for an entire season of transformation in my life ~ one that unfolded around the threshold of motherhood, leaving the record label that put out my first two albums, and stepping into an entirely new creative landscape.
Somewhere inside all that unraveling, another world quietly began opening.
One morning on tour across America I wrote a letter to one of my all time favourite producers, John Parish. Months later, at 33 weeks pregnant, I flew from Australia to Bristol and began recording a new body of work. There is a Light on the Horizon Line became a kind of mantra about freedom, transformation, motherhood, grief, becoming, and surrendering to the unknown current of life.
This is the first glimpse into my third LP ~ releasing later this year on my newfound independent label, Everwilde Records. I wrote a much more in depth piece about the unfolding story of this journey and how it came to be over on my Substack, but for now, my prayer is that this song flies away and finds whoever needs it. That is serve as a balm or mantra to invoke freedom and the new paradigm within.

Sparke steigt in das an Jonathan Wilson erinnernde Szenario im entspannten Rhythmus zum minimalistischen Refrain ein und befreit sich im latent psychedelisch schippernden Leitsatz behutsam klimpernd und schrammelnd von allen Lasten: „Free in the change of times/ Free in the Universe eye“.
Repetitiv verträumt baden die Musiker – Shahzad Ismaily (Synthesizer, Bass, Piano), Drummer Seb Rochford und Produzent John Parish, der nicht nur auch die Backing beisteuert, sondern neben Adam Brisbin und Adrian Utley auch an der Gitarre steht – im Klangraum, meditativ und ruhig. Der Wellengang transzendiert. Die trancehafte Atmosphäre ist das Schlüsselelement, mögen die Hooks auch griffig sein.
Am Ende steht für Sparke insofern zwangsläufig eine erlösende Erkenntnis: „If we are knew ourselves as love eternal life/ Stretching out as if our bodies were the sky, oh my“.
