25 Jahre nach 'Fakebook' holt die Indie-Institution aus Hoboken Zweitgitarrist Dave Schramm zurück an Bord und wiederholt das Konzept der 1995er-Platte: Yo La Tengo covern sich selbst und andere und mischen dazu zwei neue Nummern in den minimalistisch gehaltenen Kanon.
Als William Doyle im vergangenen Jahr sein East India Youth-Debütalbum vorlegte, konnte man die Unentschlossenheit in seinem mäanderndem, aber einnehmendem Songwriting noch dem Fakt zuschreiben, dass der Engländer erst kurz davor in die elektronischen Landschaften übersiedelt war.
Courtney Barnett hat auf ihrem wunderbar slackerhafter umherstreunenden Debüt nicht nur den Albumtitel des Jahres auf Lager, sondern auch einige der schlagfertigsten Textzeilen der letzten Zeit. Dass das Songwriting an sich da nicht immer mithalten kann, ist deswegen auch beinahe halb so wild.
Die Frage, was Mama und Papa falsch gemacht haben, lässt sich zwar nach dem ersten Hören von Migre le Tigres neuer EP leider immer noch nicht beantworten, aber eines ist gewiss: die selbsternannte Akustik-Punk-Disco-Maschine gehört zu den absoluten Ausnahmetalenten der boomenden Punk-Singer-Songwriter-Szene.
Man muss sich nicht emotional in die dem vierten Soloalbum von Steve Wilson zugrunde liegende, sozialkritische Hintergrundgeschichte verlieren können, und in dem eklektischen Stilfeuerwerk drumherum festzustellen: schönere, unterhaltsamere Songs hat der Engländer seit Ewigkeiten nicht geschrieben!

Indeed the California based duo of Ignat Frege and Felix Skinner succeeded in perfecting their incredibly independent sound, and creating a maelstrom of an album that is as schizoid as it is unsettling, and gives of a fascinating disturbing atmosphere. Maybe 'Want' is a bit ahead of its time, right here and right now it works as the lurking, hautingly beautiful beast in the darkness under the bed of genre boundaries.

Waiting for the debut album of the Goodtime Boys felt like an eternity. And as it turns out it was worth waiting: 'Rain' not only keeps the promises a number of EPs made since 2011, but elevates tehir qualities onto the next level. With outstanding songs like ‘Wallflower‘, ‘Life Moves‘, ‘Cloudbursts‘ or ‘Downpour‘ and songwriting that succeeds in expressing aggressiveness without losing a keen sense for grand melodies, with a spacious sound that sets itself apart from the genres sameyness, and lyrics that crawl beneath the skin. Hardcore can be so beautiful.
