Interview: Migre le Tigre

'Play your song and I’ll play mine. It feels alright to waste some time. And we’ll see if after all, we will rise or if we fall.'

Title Fight – Hyperview

Title Fight – Hyperview

von am 16. Februar 2015 in Album

"Murder all your memory/Let it suffocate/Reduce" singt Jamie Rhoden im beruhigenden Strom des Openers 'Murder Your Memory', 'New Vision' nennt sich der nebulös bleibende Closer.

Interview: Black Map

von am 11. Januar 2015 in ...in english please!

With Black Map, Mark Engels rediscoverd his joy in pure rock – as much is clear on every second of '…And We Explode': snappy riffs, a tightly fitting groove, and theoretically always in spitting direction of bombast.

Favourite Records of the Year. Selected by: Carla Bozulich

von am 22. Dezember 2014 in Adventskalender 2014

Thanks to Carla Bozulich her workshops and frenetically celebrated concerts Graz will remember 2014 as a great year. And of course there was 'Boy', her most accessible - and probably best – work to date. An impressive, skin-crawling spectacle in any case, which blurs the lines between avantgarde and pop (!) in an intense way. For day 22 of the Heavy Pop advent calendar, Bozulich told us which records left a similar impression to her.

Favourite Records of the Year. Selected by: Cult Leader

"We once were another band, and now we're a better one". That’s what it reads on Cult Leaders Facebook page. No empty words, as 'Nothing For Us Here' makes clear in merely 18 minutes. While the debut EP of the Salt Lake City four piece could have happened in the shadows of the almighty Gaza all too easily, the six songs effortlessly demonstrate that Cult Leader will have no troubles leaving the precursor band in the rearview mirror. So their first full length can't come soon enough. In the meanwhile Cult Leader told us which records left their peers in said mirror in this past year 2014 for the Heavy Pop advent calendar.

Records of the Year. Selected by: Gnarwolves

von am 20. Dezember 2014 in Adventskalender 2014

After the impressing EP marathon of the past years and a spontaneus detour into the business of brewing, Gnarwolves – probably the most outstanding hit machine on the gateway from pop to skate punk – let themselves be talked around to releasing their first full lenght. In our interview during their visit to Vienna, the Brighton three piece recommended us some records for the Heavy Pop advent calendar.

Their dynamic style of pop punk combined with fun, oldschool skate punk vibes make Gnarwolves one of the most interesting new bands the UK currently has to offer. On their first headline tour through Europe Thom (Guitar, Vocals) and Charlie (Bass, Vocals) met Heavy Pop at dasBach to talk about their debut album, skateboarding, and why their song 'Smoking Kills' isn’t really about smoking.

2014 couldn’t have started better for KMPFSPRT: „Jugend Mutiert“ easily lived up to the high expectations euphoric concert reviews and the „Das ist doch kein Name für ‚ne Band“ EP were suggesting. Close to eleven months later, the albums punkr rock hits lost nothing of their pressure and vigor. It doesn’t surprise, thatt 2015 seems to be off to an equally good start: the split single with Boysetsfire is ready to go, looks amazing, and serves a good cause. For the time being, guitar player David gives off some recommendations for 2014.
